Spaanse onderzoekers vonden bij 185 patiënten met slokdarmkanker een relatie met asbestblootstelling. Het ging om mensen uit twee middellandse zeeprovincies. De groep bestond uit 147 patiënten met het plaveiselcelcarcinoom en 38 patiënten met het adenocarcinoom.
